About Us

Safety

Hogg Construction, Inc. is committed to providing a safe and healthful working environment. In this connection, the Company makes every effort to comply with relevant federal and state occupational health and safety laws and to develop the best feasible operations, procedures, technologies and programs conducive to such an environment.

The Hogg policy is aimed at minimizing the exposure of our employees, customers and other visitors to our facilities to health or safety risks. To accomplish this objective, all the Company employees are expected to work diligently to maintain safe and healthful working conditions and to adhere to proper operating practices and procedures designed to prevent injuries and illnesses.

Hogg Construction has been awarded the prestigious STEP Platinum Award 2001-2009 by the Associated Builders and Contractors. It is the construction industry’s highest level of safety recognition. The Safety Training & Evaluation Process (STEP) uses 20 key safety components to provide a structure for creating and sustaining a safety culture throughout the company. Hogg Construction has also committed the extra time and resources to achieving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry / Bureau of Workers Compensation’s Certification of our Safety Committee. The Safety Committee oversees company-wide compliance with applicable laws and ensures that best practices in safety are implemented on every jobsite.

Some of our key practices that achieve and sustain this high level of safety include:
• Work areas are clearly marked and cordoned off to restrict unauthorized personnel from entering the areas.
• Superintendents are held to a high standard of housekeeping in order to maintain a safe jobsite. Jobsite cleanup is a daily activity.
• Specific areas are designated for material and flammable liquid storage, parking and trash.
• Safe, clear vehicle access and traffic movement, including marked jobsite entrances are coordinated with the owner.
• A designated area for tools storage is established and is not accessible to unauthorized personnel.
• Hard hats are worn by all workers on the jobsite at all times.
• Each superintendent regularly participates in the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Course.
• Each superintendent is trained in first aid and CPR.
• Superintendents hold monthly jobsite safety meetings and weekly toolbox talks discussing specific issues and problems relating to their construction site. These meetings are attended by Hogg employees and all subcontractors’ employees working on the jobsite.
• Hogg Construction employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
• Hogg Construction’s Certified Safety Committee conducts regular on-site safety inspections.

Associated Builders and Contractors developed the Safety Training and Evaluation Process (S.T.E.P.) Program for contractors. The Platinum Award Program is designed to provide special recognition for outstanding safety achievements above and beyond ordinary practices.
